A CELEBRATION OF A BELOVED ART FORM

Anime Expo ® is the United States' largest anime and manga convention. The Expo serves to foster trade, commerce and the interests of both the general public and the animation industry. This annual event serves as THE meeting place for the general public to express their interest, share their favorites, and explore the vast and various aspects of both anime and manga. In addition to the cosplay, debates, viewings, concerts and more...the members of both the anime and mangas industries bring their products to the people.

The Mission, Purpose, and Intent of the Anime Expo ®:
  • Partnering with Purpose
Anime Expo ® has partnered with the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation.

To quote from the SBJA, "The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA) is a non-profit organization with a mission to popularize and educate the American public about anime and manga, as well as provide a forum to facilitate communication between professionals and fans."

More information can be found at its website (www.spja.org).

  • Who Attends
Each year the Expo increases substantially in size, venue, and events. This year the expo drew over 100,000 fans attend the Anime Expo 2010. These are fans of Japanese animation, manga (comic books) and pop culture. "We're delighted that so many lovers of this extraordinary art form were able to travel from the four corners of the globe to join us for this spectacular extravaganza," said Michael Lattanzio, the non-profit SPJA's President and CEO. "Hollywood is ground zero for the entertainment world and the world of anime is so very special to so many people. It has really evolved into an absolutely amazing event."

  • What Happens Here
What DOESN't happen here? The Expo boasts a hosting of over 165 exhibitors showcasing tens of thousands of products! An Artist Alley which is the venue for amateur and semi-professional artists to celebrate Japanese pop culture through fantastic works of art.

Fans are given numerous opportunities to meet the creative forces behind the art form and to participate in costume play, karaoke and video competitions, exclusive screenings, artist panels and autograph sessions.

There are events at the Nokia Theater, Nokia Plaza, and the J.W. Marriott Ballroom. All these housed the AX Idol Contest, Battle of the Bands and the ever popular Masquerade, in which fans transform themselves into their favorite anime and manga characters through creative costuming, accessories and make-up.

But more than any and all of that is the 4 amazing days set aside for people of all walks, likes, creeds, and nationalities who come together to share what they adore: ANIME!
