Llyn Foulkes One Man Band LAFF Documentary Competition | represented by Inclusive PR.

Beverly Hills, CA - Tamar Halpern's and Chris Quilty's documentary Llyn Foulkes: One Man Band answers the question of "What is meant by 'Art does not exist in a vaccum'?"

Halpern and Quitly have chronicled a good seven years in the life of Contemporary Artist Llyn Foulkes. At first glance, it seems that Llyn does a lot of complaining! But through interviews with Llyn, his collaborators and critics, we learn that he has a lot to complain about! Over the course of this film, we see it for what it actually is: commentary.

Foulkes is not unfamiliar with art and its scene. In 1959, he began exhibiting with the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles with his first one-man show held in 1961.

Being one who is very much involved in the process of creating art, we watch over the course of the film, how involved in the process he is. From cutting to hacking to adding and subtracting, his work is never done until, as he shares, "it's taken away from me."

But fascinatingly, Llyn Foulkes: One Man Band isn't so much about Llyn the Artist as it is about Llyn the Man.

Who hasn't heard about Kinkade, Wyland, and dare it be said, Warhol? Yet, how many have heard about Llyn?

Herein lies the commentary. Llyn Foulkes is in a state of constant flux. Such a state is unacceptable in the Art World. When something sells, the artist who created that is expected - demanded - to continue in the successful genre; and, Foulkes won't. He won't, not so much because he is unwilling; no, it is because he is unable.

The Rules of the Art Game go against his very nature. Since he cannot paint out what must no longer be, he can only cut it out. He enters the deepest space that he can and emerges from it with his work of art. He is the art and the art is him. Who could, would, expect him to be repetitious? Art does not exist in a vaccum. It is first lived. Experienced. Expressed. Made manifest.

But as the documentary unfolds, it discloses the hard truth that the world is ever changing, nothing remains the same; and now, Llyn Foulkes is fast becoming an Artist Superstar to the masses. For as fickle as the Art World is known to be, Foulkes - always before his time - is now right on time. For the age has finally caught up to his vision: Corporate greed and overreach should not have a place in our society. Down with the days of man's inhumanity to man; and, in the end, understand why it is fair to chant: Death to Mickey Mouse.
