A 40th Anniversary Screening of Bruce Lee's Enter The Dragon

April 17, 2013 | Hollywood, CA

A 40th Anniversary Screening of Bruce Lee's "Enter The Dragon"

Presented in an original 35mm Technicolor dye-transfer print from the Academy Film Archive, it was tastefully used to introduce and celebrate a new exhibition titled: "Kick Ass!: Kung Fu Posters from the Stephen Chin Collection."

Once again, the Academy proved its commitment to celebrating, honoring, and extolling cinematic treasures. Special guests in attendance for this once-in-a-lifetime-event were co-stars John Saxon and Bob Wall, producers Paul Heller and Fred Weintraub, cinematographer Gil Hubbs, composer Lalo Schifrin and Shannon Lee, daughter of Bruce Lee.

The insights and stories that the panel shared with the audience were priceless. Discussed were the film's developments, its pre- and post-production, as well as the logistics and difficulties they enountered in making "Enter The Dragon" a full-fledged Hollywood Martial Arts film.

John Saxon (he played Roper in the film) spoke of the bond that he and Lee had made during the film. Bob Wall (he was Oharra) shared some fun, behind-the-scenes information. One example of Wall's: Bruce Lee chose him for the film because he was the only one that could handle Lee's blows. Shannon Lee's insights were the most heartwarming because although Bruce Lee was an international Move Star, to her, he was simply "Dad!"

Having the opportunity to listen to the panel was rewarding in and of itself. Add to that the glorious screening of the movie in pristine form and to this martial artist fan, it was perfect. So, to have it topped off with the one-and-only Bob Wall mingling, talking, and taking photos with the audience attendees; well, that was a wonder immeasurable!
