Veteran's Day Weekend, November 9-11, 2012 US/Pacific

Operation Supply Drop's
National Veteran's Day "8-bit Salute to Veterans,"

Los Angeles, CA - Parties organized by gamers across America over Veterans Day Weekend 2012 raised funds for and collected video games and consoles to be sent to U.S. Troops deployed to Afghanstan as well as being rehabilitated at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

The events were part of Operation Supply Drop's National Veteran's Day "8-bit Salute to Veterans," held in Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York City on Saturday, November 10th; and, had gamers everywhere invited to participate.

Captain Stephen "Shanghai Six" Machuga, a former Army Airborne Ranger, founded Operation Supply Drop in 2010, after serving for eight years with the US Army, including 13 months in Iraq. An avid gamer himself, "Shanghai Six" realized that many soldiers are gamers and don't have access, while deployed, to their favorite form of entertainment - one of the few types of leisure activity permitted in high threat areas.

"When soldiers aren't outside the wire on patrol, their favorite activity is playing video games," explains Machuga. "Our packages are an immeasurable morale booster; troops are accustomed to getting care packages from strangers full of baby wipes and socks. Our care packages are designed to blow their socks off!"

Since the establishment of Operation Supply Drop, the charity has raised more than $60,000 in games and gear packages, each with an average value of $2,000 to units deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Now, Operation Supply Drop is working the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to begin sending video games and consoles to wounded and rehabilitating soldiers in their facilities.

While manning the Los Angeles HQ of Operation Supply Drop's National Veteran's Day "8-bit Salute to Veterans," held in the Los Angeles Film School during the GI FilmFest Hollywood 2012, Captain Stephen Machuga graciously took time to be interviewed by The "IN" Show:

It is clear to see that the work being performed by Operation Supply Drop is an important endeavor. Our military service men and women need their down-time just as much as they need the other ammenities that come in other care packages; sometimes, even more. That's where Operation Supply Drop has come in to meet the need!

If you or someone you know would like to make a contribution to this important MISSION, there are some ways you can get involved. You can contribute new or undamaged, pre-owned games or consoles to: Operation Supply Drop (OSD) 9301 Alvyn Lake Cir., Bristow, VA 20136; or, you can opt to give a simple, monetary contribution [via Paypal to donations@operationsupplydrop.org] knowing it, too, will go a long way in giving our soldiers a small respite from the harsh and intense realities of their daily activities on our behalf.
